Question: I am a 76 year old man in generally good health other than being diagnosed with prostate cancer in August of 2015 with XXXXXXX score of 8. after radiation ended in Dec 2015, and hormone therapy still ongoing, my PSA level is currently .01. Here is my question: yesterday I briandeveloped in my inner right thigh about 3/4 the way above my kneecap to my groin a severe burning pain that goes away in about 3 seconds but has continued now for 24 hours The pain throbs about 3 times per incident and goes away till the next one. The throbbing returns for the most part about 5 minutes apart. Any ideas?

Brief Answer:
Possible nerve pain, but consider ruling out deep vein thromboses.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using Healthcaremagic to post your health query.
I read carefully your question and I understand your concern.

From what you are describing me, you may have a pinched nerve, which is injured a bit and now is contracting the muscle. If you don't have contraindications, I would suggest to take Ibuprofen 400mg, 3 times/day, for some days and see if it is helpful. Also, rub locally an analgesic cream, 3-4 times/day which will help relieve the pain too.

One very important diagnose to rule out, is deep vein thromboses. I would suggest to measure the diameter of your leg, at the level of pain, and if there is a difference of more then 1-2 cm in both sides, then you should consider going to the ER to rule out this important diagnoses, with some blood tests and an ultrasound of the veins.

If worse or not better, I would recommend seeing a local doctor.

Hope this is helpful.
Let me know if you need more clarifications.

Regards,
Dr. Papaqako
