Question: My diagnosis is PXE Glaucoma and today my IOP is 43. I am on maximum doseage eye drop therapy and Diamox. Is this an emergency where I need immediately surgery? If so what kind of surgery? I am 81 and my husband is 88. We live in a small town in Maine and would have to drive to downtown XXXXXXX which is terrifying to me. Should we try to do this?

Brief Answer:
Emergency medication

Detailed Answer:
My dear,
thanks for sending your query to us.
This is a emergency for medical treatment. Surgeons do not prefer to operate this level of pressure..To bring this pressure down you have to get Intravenous Injection of MANNITOL (provided you're having a good Renal Function).

This i hope can be done at your local ER/Healthcare centre and then you can plan your visit at your convenience.

Inj. MANNITOL is 350/500 ml bottle given as rapid infusion in 45 minute to an Hour duration.
Continue your other medications along with that.

Do get back to me in case of any further query in this regard.

Thanks for contacting HCM.
