What Causes Involuntary Bowel Movement In A 9 Year Old Child?

default
Posted on Tue, 16 Aug 2016
Question: My son is 9 1/2 years old and has been soiling his pants for the last 3 months. He has never had a problem like this before. He's never even wet his bed. Is this a medical condition? He has a very healthy diet (very little to no sugars, sodas and fried foods), he drinks plenty of water and says his bowel movements feel normal.

Brief Answer:
Soiling

Detailed Answer:
Hello. I just read through your question.
This could be a muscular problem, a sensory problem, or possibly infection. Infection is probably least likely because of how long the symptoms have persisted.
It would be a great idea to have your doctor send a stool sample to the lab to have it analyzed and discuss a good Pediatric GI specialist.
