What Causes Irregular Abnormal Periods?

default
Posted on Sat, 13 Sep 2014
Question: Hello, I am female 19 years old. I tend to feel the cold a lot, or feel very hot if I do any exercise, my body tends to feel tingly and I get very cold hands and feet and more so than other people as I am always the one more cold than others, could this be a thyroid problem? I know I am iron deficient but I do take a carbonyl iron supplement and Oxylent vitamin drink. I eat fairly healthily but am often under stress and am always feeling quite tense due to anxiety and my muscles find it hard to relax, I also could be in a warm room and my body would be cold to the touch. A few months ago I came off the birth control pill XXXXXXX and since have had no period, and am definitely NOT pregnant, I am on doxycycline 100mg for my moderate acne and I think there must be an imbalance in my body somewhere, I also find it hard to see things in the distance. I do feel that I struggle I used to have chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia, I can't be on my feet all day so I work at a office and get very cold as poor heating and sitting still long periods of time. I also have had my tonsils out as a child, and had a bad case of staphacocolys boils on my skin at intermediate age, I also get oily hair and face, I take a digestive enzyme as I find it harder to digest milk. I also wake up with aches and pains but once I get moving I seem to be alright but have sensitive legs I can't walk up incline so I wear orthotic fitted shoes to relieve the pressure on my legs. I feel I need more sleep than I should, but I am up quite late at night as that is when I get my energy, I prefer to take the herbal natural route but of course like a diabetic relies on their insulin I may need to rely on pills to help my health. Please help me doc I'm a bit lost.

Brief Answer:
Hi

Detailed Answer:
Dear,
Good day.
Noted your concern.
Many of your symptoms together with irregular/absent periods could be because of hypothyroidism. However, I must say that mental stress and anxiety surely plays a big role in such symptoms. Noted your picture and I do agree that you have pustular acne on your face. Since you have oily face, irregular/absent periods and acne, I would suggest following tests.

1.Thyroid function tests
2.Serum Prolactin
3. Fasting ( 8-9 am) serum testosterone,
4. SHBG
5. Fasting blood sugar
6.Vitamin D level ( since you have body ache. I realize that you have fibromyalgia, but Vitamin D deficiency is a common cause of body ache)

Since you have oily face, its better to wash your face with cold water 3-4 times a day.

I certainly feel that, you will be benefited by meditation and Yoga and some stretching exercise.

Regards
Binu
