Posted on Mon, 11 Jan 2016
Question: Dear Doctor,
I am 27yrs old, married since 2years, and not trying to conceive for the next year or so. I am a PCOD patient with 3 microcysts. I have never been on medication since I am not overweight and neither were my cycles irregular((I exercise regularly and have always watched my diet and weight, I am 5'7.5" height and 60kg) until recently(September 2015) I started getting brown spotting on the mensus date and from October I have been getting my regular periods(Which barely lasts for 2days) and exactly after 15days I get the brown spotting that lasts for exactly 7 days. Since September and November i have taken Primolut tablet course (for 5 and 7 daysrespectively) and it hasn regularised. However, I would like to mention that Since september i have been taking Aldactone 100mg(cause i have facial hair) and also Cetapin xr 500. I started having these irregular twice a month mensus since the intercourse i had with my husband in september! Please help,it is frustrating to not get a good 5day cycle and have spotting which sometimes darkens by the next day. :(

Brief Answer:
Start OCP

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concerns about irregular spotting.

This is because of hormonal variations by aldactone. Primolut alone may not help you. I suggest you start on any oral contraceptive pills. These pills taken for 3 months will help in restoring hormonal balance.

Let me know if you need anymore help.

Thank you for the prompt reply doctor. So should I stop taking aldactone and continue with cetapin xr 500mg tablet? I take one tablet at night after meal everyday along with aldactone 100mg .

Brief Answer:
Aldactone can be continued

Hi XXXXXXX

You can continue aldactone . Along with it you can also continue with OCP as I suggested so that benefit of aldactone is not taken away.

Thank you doctor :)

Hello doctor,
sorry I had one more question. Cetapin xr 500mg tablet is OCP? It also contains metformin. This tablet has helped me drastically for weight control.
