Question : I have a 19 year old son who has just told me he has a rash under both armpits. He doesn't wear deodorant so that has been ruled out. I looks irritated but doesn't have any bumps associated with it. He does sweat a lot

thanks for sending the question.
It sounds like this might be fungal in origin. I think it would be reasonable for you to try over-the-counter antifungal topical cream. You can get this at the pharmacy with the help of the pharmacist. Usually active ingredient of clotrimazole tends to work well.
this might also be related to contact dermatitis. In that case topical hydrocortisone might work. I will try using the antifungal cream first.
It might be beneficial for him to use an anti-perspirant in the future to avoid this type of situation again. Generally warm moist environments are at higher risk for developing fungal infections.
