Brief Answer:
Mouth irritation

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

I am sorry to hear that you have an area of irritation on the inside of your mouth. The area feels rough and is painful when using mouth wash. If you look in you rmouth do you see any white patches. If you do then you may have thrush or a yeast infection in the mouth. If you do then you need to see your medical provider for anti-fungal treatment.

If the area is just red then you may have coxsackie virus infection on the gums. This is something that will go away with time. There are no treatments to treat then virus. I usually recommend taking a half solution of benadryl and maalox as a swish and spit. The benadryl will numb the area and the maalox will stick to the area and allow for healing.

If the area does not heal in the next week then I recommend that you see your medical provider. You may need biopsies or other treatment to determine what this area is.

In summary
1. if white patches then thrush see your medical provider for treatment
2. If not then could be coxsackie virus and treat with solution of benadryl and maalox
3. If no improvement then see medical provider

I hope I answered your question. Please contact us again if you have any additional questions
