What Causes Itchiness In Throat After Smoking Cigarettes?

default
Posted on Fri, 2 Jan 2015
Question: I smoked cigarettes sporadically for about a year. One day i smoked 4 cigarettes, then the following day I smoked 3. The following morning I felt this itchiness in my throat. It's chronic, near the top of my throat at the point where I swallow. It's not painful, but uncomfortable and constant. It's been about 7 days and it's subsided somewhat but still present. I feel this invisible had closed around this area. For some reason it causes me to feel the need to constantly swallow. I'm 28 years old and 170 pounds.

Brief Answer:
Requires detailed ent examination, smoking could be a cause.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.

As per your clinical details, your itching in throat could be due to drying of throat mucosa secondary to smoking.

Drying can also occurs with sinusitis, acid reflux or bronchitis.

I suggest you to consult an ENT surgeon, get detailed ENT examination, nasal endoscopy (sinusitis, allergic rhintis). laryngoscopy (voice box congestion-laryngitis), if necessary X-ray chest to rule out any bronchitis (smoking). Treatment can be started as per the investigations.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
