Question: Hi Doctor

I had unprotected oral sex 1-2 weeks back.
3 days back I started to feel bit of itch in genitals + frequent urination + slight pain in tip of penis.
Itch + penis pain lasted for 1 day. But I still have frequent urination during daytime with mild burning at beginning of urination. Also have a tingling inside penis.

My urine analysis came back. there was mucous in the urine with WBC count in 0-2 range. What does this mean.Could it be herpes or some other std. What are the chances ?

Brief Answer:
Yes it could be sexually transmitted disease.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query at HCM
I understand your concern and situation.

Your symptoms are suggesting epididmytis which is a genitourinary infection. It causes pain in penis and increased frequency of urination. It could be due to bacteria like chlamydia, neisseria or gram negative bacteria.

If I were your treating doctor, I will advice you to get discharge and urine collected aseptically and send for gram staining microscopy examination and culture sensitivity test for aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. Azithromycin or antibiotics based on sensitivity test should be started. In addition topical triple action cream could be added. Based on the results of previous tests, you may need to be tested for VDRL, tests for bacterial diseases, serological tests for HIV also.

I hope I answered your query.

Brief Answer:
Repeat test of urine

Detailed Answer:
Hi

If you have got only one sample tested then I suggest you to repeat urine examination test on 3 samples. But if you are improving no need for test.
Take care.
