What Causes Itching In The Pubic Area?

default
Posted on Tue, 14 Feb 2017
Question: Hi I am just curious about some itching in my pubic area. I have been looking at different pictures and symptoms online, but none have looked like what I see in my area. I have some mild redness around my hair follicles. It does not itch all the time, but seems to itch the more I think about it. I have had two partners since I have last gotten tested for STD's. The first partner I exclusively used a condom with except one time when she gave me oral for only 5-10 seconds. I have been with my girlfriend now for 6 months and do not experience itching all the time. I gained a little bit of weight this year and so now my pants all fit somewhat tight, especially the pants that I would wear to work.

Brief Answer:
It can be tinea or ring worm infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to health care magic! Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We will try to help you in best way possible.

First of all, it is sad to know what you had been experiencing lately. Based on the history and pictures, you have shared, it seems more likely to be early presentation of ringworm or tinea and may need a course of topical antifungal like clotrimazole and using steroid ointment alone may even worsen the infection as you are using already.

Oral anti histamines like cetrizine or loratidine can help with itching and OTC analgesics like acetaminophen can be used in cases of severe redness or inflammation.

It's better to get it reviewed by a dermatologist in detail and repeating a STD profile isn't of any harm either and for further reassurance it can be proceeded with.

Avoiding tight undergarments for few days and keeping the area as much dry as possible is recommended.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Regards.
