Question : The inside of my anus has been terribly itchy. It is itchy on and off during the day and then during sleeping hours is unbearably itchy. This occurred about 2 to 3 months ago and lasted for a few weeks. The itch went away and now has come back. I do not know what is causing it. I have not had a solid bowel movement in about a week. I have been extremely bloated and have not had a bowel movement in 2 to 3 days. I eat a very healthy diet and exercise almost daily. I also try to drink at least one liter of water per day. What could be the cause of such an intense itch and what type of doctor should I see?

Brief Answer:
Likely to be pin worms or moniliasis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
The commonest causes for itching in the anus are pin worms and yeast (monilial ) infection.
A stool examination may be helpful.
If it is difficult for you to consult a doctor, a therapeutic trial with Albendazole would relieve the symptom if it is due to pin worms.
