What Causes Itching Of Penis And Small Rash On Head Of Penis?

I went to the doctor today about irritation on the tip of my penis. I was moderately convinced it was a yeast infection but the doctor said it seemed to be mostly a jock itch. He didn't run any tests. The more I've read on line it seems like HSV-2, but I also know that yeast and jock itch can feel similar. The last time I had intercourse was sunday the 17, but my she doesn't have herpes. I'm borderline panicking at this point. Symptoms are a itching/tingling feeling, a small rash on the head towards the "lip" of the head. No pain while urinating, no vessicals or blisters. The underside of the tip does take on a grey/purple hue from time to time. Any help would be appreciated.
Jock itch and yeast infection = different fungi...
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Jock itch and yeast infection are caused both by different types of fungi. Jock itch is a fungal infection of the skin caused by a ringworm. It is not a worm, but a type of fungus.
It is common involving partner if one is having fungal infection. It is not HSV-2 although it can be transmitted in between partners.
Try not to panic. It is not the case to get panicked. I advise to:
- keep good hygiene of your genitalia
- avoid irritant soaps or cleansers
- use always protective measures when having intercourse
- avoid sex until improvement
- if you have only one partner, get her checked and treated as well
- Take medications as directed by your doctor (they are topical anti-fungal cream/ointments)
- use cotton underwear
If no improvement, oral medications should be started by your dermatologist.
