What Causes Itching Sensation On Ankles And Upper Feet?

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Jun 2016
Question: My ankles and upper feet are itching severely. I put Cortizone on them & then have to hold ice on them to stop the itching. I think it might indicate cancer somewhere in my body, but what do I know? I am 76 years old, have COPD, and weigh 112.
My half sister died of some unique form of cancer, something like myosis fibrosis--it looked like leprosy....she suffered. I hope I don't have this!!! Itching was her first symptom.

I also have blood lesions on my legs & arms that sometimes bleed for no reason. I have thin skin. Any bump can turn into a big bruise & sometimes bleeds....

Brief Answer:
upload the pictures of blood lesion, tablet cetirizine

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome.
I would like to know since when you have itching?
Is it one feet or both?
Is it associated with any swelling? Redness ?
Have you come in contact with any substance that you usually won't?
Do you have any lesion that your sister had?

An episode of itching does not indicate cancer, I feel it might be contact dermatitis. Presently was the area with cool water and with mild soap. Tap it dry, and apply your cortisone ointment. There should be improvement with this. I would have advised you to take tab cetirizine 10 mg once daily for 3 days. It will take care of itching.

Kindly upload the pictures of the blood lesions, I'll get through them and let you know what they might be.

This provisional advice provided by me is based entirely on the input provided to me. I would suggest examination by the doctor.

I hope this suggestion might be of some help to you.
Take care.

Itching is intermittent and started within the last month. It is only present on one foot/ankle at a time. I apologize for not knowing how to upload a photo of the red spots/bruising that sometimes bleed. My dermatologist said it was caused by having to take steroids (Prednisone) when I was in the hospital. I still take this drug on occasion when I have flare ups of COPD--about one a day for 3-4 days, probably one flare up every 3-4 months apart. I do not agree with his diagnosis since my skin is so thin (inherited condition from maternal side).
There is no swelling nor redness associated with the itching. I have not used any creams nor salves that are not those I have always taken. I do not know what lesions my half sister may have had because she was always in the hospital, bandaged like a mummy, when I saw her. I thank you for your help

Hi
Thanks for getting back.
Sorry for delayed response due to hectic schedule.
It is difficult to diagnose without examination, but I can say that only based on itching as symptom, it is less likely to be cancer.
Presently, kindly follow the instructions suggest in the earlier post, it should reduce your symptom.

This provisional advice provided by me is based entirely on the input provided to me. I would suggest examination by the doctor.

I hope this suggestion might be of some help to you.
