Question : My daughter is seven. Tuesday, after school, she had 101.5 fever and complained of being cold, a headache and scratchy throat. After an hour, with no meds given, she did not run fever again until last night (Wednesday at 10pm). I gave her Motrin and she became comfortable again and cooler. This morning she woke up with no fever and again just a scratchy throat and tummy hurt a little (hadn't had breakfast). I am baffled. My thought was that I should take her to dr tomorrow if she runs fever again tonight. I just hate to expose her to dr office germs if they are going to tell me viral infection. Any suggestions?
Brief Answer:
Fever
Detailed Answer:
Hello. I just read through your question.
I agree that the most likely diagnosis is a simple viral illness. However, once I get a third day of fever, I always like to have the children checked out. Often that third day of fever could indicate something more than just a virus. So if the fever comes up again, it's worth the visit to the doctor. If not, we can let the illness run it's course and resolve on it's own.
