What Causes Itchy White Bumps In The Intergluteal Cleft?

default
Posted on Wed, 11 Jan 2017
Question: I have a few small, white, itchy bumps that look like white head zits toward the top of my but crack. it's red around them like they're irritated. I've had them appear a few times in the past couple years but they go away in a few days after using alcohol and antifungal cream to dry it out. I'm wondering what it could be? I've tested negative for std's.

Brief Answer:
May be folliculitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I looked at the picture you uploaded. The pimples may be folliculitis or small bacterial infections. It's hard for me to interpret the red area on the photo as it looks very large, angry and extensive, and I'm wondering if part of the red area is actually a shadow? The red area I'm referring to is v-shaped.

I recommend hot compresses, such as with a hot wet wash cloth, as well as hot sitz baths. The hot water will increase circulation and white blood cells to the area to help fight infection, and raising the temperature of the skin also makes it inhospitable for microorganisms that thrive at skin temperature.

Wear loose fitting clothes on your bottom that can breathe, and decrease amount of time sitting.

Some women shave their buttock hair, and this is to be avoided for you as it can predispose to infection. Also, avoid using oils, or thick moisturizers there, as these can clog up pores and increase the chances of this problem.

Using a topical antibiotic is ok and may help, but gels, creams, and washes might be less clogging than an ointment.

If the reddened area gets redder, or if you develop fevers, then do go in to be seen promptly.

In the future, as soon as you see something like this start to develop, start in right away with hot wet compresses for several minutes as many times per day as you are able (minimum of 3 times).

I hope this information helps.
