Question : Hello Doctor,
My wife (34 years old) has been complaining of pain in the right ear, since yesterday morning. She has the pain even with a slight movement of jaw. Also she feels there is a slight swelling inside the right ear. She doesn't have a running nose or cold though. The pain is not unbearable but it is uncomfortable.
Please advise.

Brief Answer:
Otitis Externa
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Your wife seems to have follicle infection of the hair root in the external ear canal. This is extremely common since it is exposed to external environment. This also common in people who try to clean wax by themselves.
She can take over the counter pain killers like Brufen 400mg after food thrice a day for two days. If the pain does not clear and if there is discharge as well then you may need antibiotic tablets after prescription from a local doctor.
Hope this helps.
