What Causes Jelly Like Chucks In Semen?

default
Posted on Sat, 11 Jun 2016
Question: Hi there. I have jelly-like chucks in my semen. It has been happening for at least 8 years and seems to be worse when I haven't ejaculated in a longer period of time (ie. More than 2 or 3 days). I saw a urologist who couldn't explain it but put me on antibiotics for 13 weeks without any improvement.I read all over the internet that it is normal but I'm XXXXXXX so I've seen my fair share of semen, and I've never seen it in anyone else's semen ever. I've also read that it could be related to a high protein diet, however I've been on a very low protein diet for 4+ months and I don't eat meat, no change in symptoms. I sometimes get a lump on the side of my testicles which I waa told is probably spermatoceles. Hoping a specialist somewhere can provide me with some advice.

Brief Answer:
Jelly like chucks in semen are due to clumping of sperms .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have noticed jelly like chucks in semen .

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) Have you done your semen analysis ?
if so please post report .

The jelly like chucks are due to clumping (Agglutination ) where sperms adhere to each other due to presence of anti sperm antibody and form a clumps which look like jelly particles .

The exact cause of the clumping is still unknown however in majority of cases it is due to either infection or antibody formation .

Normally we prescribe antibiotics for long period of 6-8 weeks assuming it to be due to infection .

Please get following basic tests done to establish cause of clumping which may help to take appropriate treatment
1) Semen Analysis and Semen Culture
3) Semen examination to detect anti sperm antibody.
3) Blood test both( in your female partner and yourself) todetect anti sperm antibodies.

Taking Vit E and Vit C for long term helps to restrict production of anti sperm antibodies .

Further treatment will depend upon result of these tests and final diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions , I shall be happy to help you .
Thanks and Regards.
