What Causes Knees, Ankles And Neck Pain?

default
Posted on Wed, 8 Jul 2015
Question: My neice 22, is having a problem with her knees, ankles and neck hurting, wether she is on her feet or sitting. Sometimes her ankles swell up and look bruised. She has had a bone scan, and is scheduled for an mri, but this is debilitating to her mental and physical state. She can work a day, then be bedridden for a couple of days as the pain is severe. She uses ice packs but is miserable. Possibly fibromyalgia?, or arthritis?

Brief Answer:
Fibromyalgia is very unlikely

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

Frequent swelling in ankle joint with pain in other parts of body in female of 22 years of age I would like to rule out rheumatological causes first.

You have mentioned that she had bone scan and tests but the type of test has not been elaborated.
The fibromyalgia is unlikely as in this condition there can be pain and tenderness at multiple site of body but very rarely associated with joint swelling.

I would like to do few investigations like
1)Complete Hemogram including ESR
2)CRP
3)Rheumatoid factor
4)Antinuclear antibody
4)Hepatitis B antigen,Heaptitis C antibody
5)Test for Lymes diasease
6)Bleeding time/clotting time

to check whether these symptoms are due to Rheumatoid arthritis,Systemic lupus,Chronic hepatitis,Lymes disease and very rarely hemophilia(a disease of males).

I hope with the help of these tests I would be able to reach a possible diagnosis.

Please attach the reports If these tests have been done already.

Please do ask if you have any query and keep in follow up.
Wish you and your family good health
Regards
