What Causes Large Pus Filled Bump On Left Eyelid?

default
Posted on Wed, 18 Mar 2015
Question: My 6 month old baby started with what looked like an allergy...red under his eyes...this turned large puss filled bumps under his right lid and a large puss filled bump on top of his left lid. We did a round of anti biotics and eurythromicin on his eyes. the puss drained but the lower lids looks red and another bump is forming on the lower lid. He has a total of three bumps now. I feel there is an underlying cause....perhaps an allergy? The eye doctor said it was chalazion but the pictures that I see online do not have the redness under the eyes that he has. We have tried hot compress but nothing seems to work. Could this be something else? This all happened after he received 4 vaccines within one months times.

Brief Answer:
looks like infection more.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, thanks for your question on HCM.
I can understand your situation and problem.
In my opinion it looks like infection more.
Allergy is less likely to occur only in eye area. If it is allergy then it is more likely to involve other skin areas like arms, chest, back , legs etc. So it appears allergy less likely.
Pus is seen commonly in infection.
So infective etiology appears more. We need to search the cause of infection in 6month old child.
Following should be evaluated in his case.
1. Diabetes melitus type 1.
2. Immunoglobulin deficiency syndrome.
3. Skin diseases like pemphigus.
So better to rule out above mentioned conditions first.
Another evidence supporting this is that he is started all these after vaccines. Vaccines are known to cause change in immunity.
So better to rule out all these first.
Hope i have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wishing good health to your son.
Thanks.
