It is likely to be mucous plug

Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Ms

First and foremost let me reassure you there is no cause for concern , things can be taken care off. From the description given it is likely to be mucous plug secondary to retained secretion which is passed out.

It would be helpful if you could provide me the following additional information

1. When was your last menstrual cycle?

2. Are your periods regular?

3. Do you have any nausea/vomiting?

4. Are you having any urinary complaints?

5. Do you pass stools regularly?

In the meantime taking antispasmodic like Drotavarine along with antacid like Pantoprozole will provided much needed relief.

Awaiting your response

1 I have my periods now, have been bleeding since Monday.
2 my periods are not regular. I have been on microgynon 50 for the past few years and when I'm not on the strong pill I bleed for weeks at a time.
3 no vomiting or nausea
4 no urinary concerns
5 frequently pass stools with no issues. At least once a day

I have kept the mass I passed, incase it was something serious that needed to be followed up

Brief Answer:
It is likely to be retained secretion

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms

Going by description of symptoms and no other associated symptoms, it is likely that the white thing which you passed is mucous plug which could be retained secretion. Do send me clinical photograph of the white matter you have retained .

It is not completely white, it starts off red and one end and turns whiter at the other. It is kind of like a tubular looking shape

Brief Answer:
It is sloughing out of endometrial lining

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms

Tubular shape is due to the shape of uterus. Excessive proliferation of endometrial lining can lead to sloughing and expulsion taking the form of tube . If there is no associated pain in abdomen then there is no cause for concern.

I hope there has been no history of retained tampon or foreign body.

No i dont use tampons i use sanitary pads and nothing else has been inserted inside myself. What could be the cause of this then? Ihad severe pain for 15mins prior to passing the mass but nothing unusual after, pain stopped instantly as it passed. I just feel a bit yuck in the stomach as i do each time i get my periods. Should i see my gp? Should i keep the mass for reference? Thank you so much for the help and advise

Brief Answer:
If there are no other symptoms then no further intervention required

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms

The short pain which you experienced was colic pain usually associated with passage of clots or thick Endometrial lining as in your case. Of presently there is no pain and it's just menstrual bleeding without associated clots them no further intervention is required.
Rest be assured

Wishing you and your family a very happy and healthy life.

Take care
