Question : My husband had acute left-side abdominal pain and a fever and went to the ER this afternoon. All blood work, urine and CT came back normal. However, his fever continues to climb (almost 103 now). Is it possible the tests missed something? Should I take him back to the hospital?

Other tests like blood culture should also be considered.

He would need to go on broad spectrum antibiotics that would be adjusted as more information is gathered to pinpoint what the cause of this infection is.

In all, the high temperature is very suggestive of an ongoing infectious process that must have been missed. I will suggest that you get him back to the ER. The doctors should consider starting him on XXXXXXX spectrum antibiotics while ,more investigations including blood cultures are carried out to identify the origin and cause of this infection.
