What Causes Left Sided Chest Pain While Treating Depression And Anxiety?

default
Posted on Mon, 13 Nov 2017
Question: 55 year old male. I’ve had terrible depression and anxiety for 7 months since my wife left. I am having heart palpitations, upper left side chest pain that radiates to left upper back. Blood pressure has been good. Beats per minute around 90. A little shortness of breath. Chest X-ray clear. Quit smoking and drinking. Didn’t really have all these symptoms until after she left. Do you think my heart is ok. Is the terrible anxiety causing most of these symptoms, or my heart. Thank you

Brief Answer:
Symptoms more likely to be stress and anxiety related

Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir

After going through the medical details provided by you I would like to tell you that your symptoms are more of stress related origin and less likely to be cardiac.

However Considering Your Age group they can't be ignored and left unattended. So its highly advisable that you should personally consult a cardiologist once and get an ECG and ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY done for evaluation.

For your anxiety part taking the help of a psychologist will be really helpful.

If propranolol is not suiting you then you can go with Metoprolol for your palpitations but only after reviewing and discussing this with your doctor.

I hope this information will guide you properly and relieve your worries.

Kind regards
