What Causes Left-sided Painful Mass In Abdomen?

default
Posted on Thu, 30 Jul 2015
Question: On my left side of abdomen i have a painful mass. Its about 4 fingers across and 2 fingers down going from belly button towards the left. The lump itself is about golf ball size. It doesnt hurt any more or less when i eat or go to bathroom which is all the same as ussual no constipation or diarrea. Its really painful if i press on it and moderately painful continuously without fussing with it. Just wondering what it may be i didnt think any organs were in that area except intestines. Could cyst be on ovary up that high or spleen be felt in that area

Brief Answer:
proper evaluation and CT

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query, read and understood your concerns.
May I please know a few more details to correlate:
-Is the lump fixed in position?
- Since how long the lump present?
-Does it appear to be in the abdominal wall? It can be felt even on Making abdominal wall tight like trying to lift the head and legs in lying down position. This is then indicative of an infected sebaceous cyst or obstructed hernia or so. Lipoma do not hurt in usual occurrence.

-Or disappears on tightening the abdominal wall, if so it may be intra-abdominal mass like lymph node mass or a cyst or mass from intestine.

I would advise you the following:
Get a clinical evaluation and examination by a General Surgean.
CT scan to get a confirmation
And surgery for getting rid of the disease.
And get a confirmed diagnosis.

I hope this answer helps you.

Brief Answer:
Better to get started on proper medicines.

Detailed Answer:
This again is not a good indication - of having low grade fever.
It would be advisable to get started on antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medicines.
One more week - let us hope nothing serious happens. It is better to consult a Doctor may be at Urgent care or ER and get examined and get started on medicines.

Brief Answer:
Please do not worry, this is routine procedure.

Detailed Answer:
Please do not worry. EGD is a routine procedure and is painless is done and get done properly.
What about the CT scan. This is more important to find the origin and nature of the lump.
Did your Doctor examine it ?

Yes he just said it was odd and pushed on lump which hurt and slmost made me puke lol. I had a ct scan back in april of abdomen/pelvis from a visit to ER for fever, severe lower back and leg cramps with what I called "jelly legs" all it showed was right kidney cyst and early degeneration of spine on report. Said i may have been passing kidney stones and my pottasium was slightly low at the time but the stones were no longer there and it stopped a day or two later. Anyways he saw that I had ct scan in april and said nothing showed up on repor then and scheduled me for the egd. t

Brief Answer:
Fresh CT

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feedback.
If your doctor pushed on the lump, and if could palpate it, he should have asked st least an ultrasonography and preferably CT scan to find out diagnosis about the lump.
I doubt about what EGD would find.
Please discuss this with your Doctor and insist for CT also
I hope this helps you.
