What Causes Leg Pain When Diagnosed With Bulging Discs?

default
Posted on Mon, 21 Nov 2016
Question: Hi Doctor,
I have mild disc bulges at L4 - L5 and L5 - S1. My both legs pain due to this problem and it becomes intense from the next day of semen release. I already used Gabapin-300 capsules for 1 month and attended physiotherapy sessions for 10 days. While attending physio sessions it gave relief but after that the pain is same. Same is the case with using capsules. Please suggest.

Brief Answer:
Ayurveda approach and management

Detailed Answer:
Dear
Thanks for contacting Ayurveda with your health concern and after reviewing your case history and Report, I'm of the following opinion:

1. Going through the MRI report: due to narrowing of the foramina (open passageways on either side of the vertebra) have become smaller resulting in compression or pinching of the nerve(s)

2. Since MRI has excluded any other spine condition (disc prolapse/herniation, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis), thus check with an orthopedic surgeon:

i. If there is no relief with routine treatment
ii. If pain is very severe or S.L.R. (straight leg raising test) is positive
iii. If there is any neurological deficiency in the legs.

PS. Lack of exercise and bad posture cause most of the problems in young patients, thus do let me know.

3. As stenosis (narrowing) is there thus physiotherapy probably won't help in long run since the heat generated by these will cause formation of edema and thus will aggravate the symptoms.

4. In Ayurveda I usually adopt the line of "GRIDHRASI" (sciatica) in such cases, but before prescribing about dietary regime, life style changes and treatment do let me know about your occupation (as stated earlier)
