Question: I was told 2 weeks ago that I have an undetermined lesion on my kidney I have an appointment with an urologist the 22 of April. This was from tests I had done at a hospital lab. Can you give me any indication of what would cause leisons and what could develop from having one?

Brief Answer:
Need some further details regarding..

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX, Welcome to HCM,

I've gone through your query and understand your concern,

Can you please describe what all tests have been done so far , else just Upload the test reports so that I can take a detailed look at them for further opinion ..

If you're unable to upload them , then request you to please e-mail them to YYYY@YYYY and keep the Subject as ATTN:Dr Arnab Banerjee and i'll receive them..

Meanwhile Undetermined lesion is always suspicious(can be anything), so needs thorough investigations, that's why needed to know what all have been done so far(including serial Urine routine microscopy, Cultures, Kidney function test, USG of KUB or CT-KUB etc.)..

Now UTI in Nov'15 should not cause this unless recurring..

There are several signs and symptoms based on which we arrive at our decisions, so please let me know about your current health status..

any medical/surgical illness ?

any specific medications that you're currently taking ? Any Specific Diet ?

How is your kidney function ? On average how much urine do you pass per day ?

Any past history of Kidney / Ureter Stones (the type of back pain you've described can be explained by this) ?

Any swelling of feet/face or any other part of body ?

What all pain killers have you taken/taking now(it can be really important at this time) ?

Any fever/ bleeding or red color urine ?

Any burning during urination ? Can you hold your urine properly ?

Now I can understand that this a quite big list of questionnaire but that's really important to narrow down the problem.. So I'd request you to take your time , go through them and answer one by one..Also upload/e-mail those reports (at least the latest ones so that the whole picture gets a bit clearer..)

Awaiting for your response..

Kind Regards

Dr. A. Banerjee, I think I was expecting to have suggestions as to what my symptons could be caused by having a lesion on the kidney.? I did not get to see the results of the blood work from the Kidney specialist. Her office just told me to make an appt. with the urologist that I saw in Nov. who put me on low dosage of antibiotic & they would send the blood results to her + the kidney ultra sound for her review. end of story for now. Guess I'll just wait until the 22nd.now only a week away. Just thought you could share your suggestions from experience, as to what the symptons might suggest. Thank you for your time. I will continue to wait for the 22nd.

waiting till 22nd would be a good idea in terms of exact nature of disease.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back Dear,

Thanks for following up,

Yes your symptoms can be explained by the lesion in your kidney , but there are several other causes which can flare it up too, kidney stones, ureteric stones, any indwelling infection, any suspicious growth/mass to name a few..

Now that you've clarified, it would be better to wait up for your scheduled appointment with the urologist who has the upper hand in this (all those investigations as well as the privilege to examine you clinically)..

Depending on the nature of the undetermined lesion in the ultrasound, the urologist may take a decision whether to go for a biopsy or not..

Try to maintain good hydration to let the kidneys well flushed all the time..

For pain you can take Tab PARACETAMOL 650 mg Three times a day after food and if it's still not relieved then you may need to take anti-spasmodics like BUSCOPAN (you'll be needing a prescription from your local physician for that)..

You're always welcome to discuss any problems whenever you feel like..I'll be glad to guide you..

Take Care
Kind Regards
