What Causes Lesser Levels Of HCG During Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Tue, 23 Dec 2014
Question: Hi Team,
i found positive on pregnancy test last week.
On 25th october I had my last period.
Total three time my HCG level tested, 1st time it was 186, 2nd time, 269, and 3rd time 301.
Today my doctor tested through ultrasonic if there is any SAC or not, but they did not find it.
My question is for both HCG and SAC
1) I know HCG is level is not growing that faster, but in this early this HCG level is normal ?
2) When can we see SAC, last time my period was on 25th October, my doctor say its 5th week so we should see it, on internet I see, many time 5th week count after last period missed (which was 25th November for me.)
I am continuously taking ALL 9 and Dophastone as advised my customer
Regards,
doctor

Brief Answer:
Beta hCG and sac clarification

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I read your query and I understand your concerns.

Following is my reply

1. Your beta hCG blood test results definitely show pregnancy.

2. Beta hCG levels should double every 48 hours.

3. I dont see its doubling. Hence there is possibility of unviable or ectopic pregnancy since no intrauterine sac is seen.

4. You are exactly 5 weeks completed pregnancy as of today considering 25th October as last period.

5. Beta hCG levels should have been higher and sac should have been seen.

6. In rare cases of delayed ovulation it is possible that you will see the rise later and also sac.

7. Hence I suggest you get serum beta hCG blood test done after 4 days and see the progress.

8. Even get doppler ultrasound scan done to rule out ectopic pregnancy.

Brief Answer:
No additional treatment required

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I have seen such patients whose values increased later.

The reasons for this could be delayed implantation or wrong lab report.

You don't need any additional treatment or yoga for the same.

Just take rest and continue with medicines you have mentioned

Hi Doctor,

Unfortunately my HCG gone down drastically and its 70 now, doctor told that I lost baby :(

I have Blood group O -ve and my husband has B+, doctor said this could be a problem and next time for safer side they will give me an injection so we can rule out this condition.

Do you think this could be an issue and is there any injection to rule out this condition ? if yes then which one ?

I have been in very healthy diet, not sure what wrong happened. I am just wondering what could be the issue ? so I can be more proactive next time

Regards,

doctor

Brief Answer:
Probable genetic abnormalities in fetus

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Your doctor is right.

Unfortunately you have lost baby though it was in early stages.

The reason for such early miscarriages is generally genetic abnormalities in the baby. Hence this could be possible in you.

You need to take the injection for negative blood group as per your doctor's advice to prevent complications. The injection is Antti-D and beeter to be taken from your doctor.

You don't have to do anything proactive for next time. This need not repeat. You are still young and have good chance of pregnancy.
