Hi,

Vaginal spotting in an elderly lady like you should never be ignored(even though it's just been a day). It must be thoroughly investigated.

Causes may range from hormonal changes, infection, anatomical changes of the female genital tract and even some malignancies of the genital tract. I will recommend that you take an appointment with your OBGYN for investigations irrespective of whether it (the slight spotting) continues or not.
