What Causes Lightheadedness, High BP And Considerable Sweating In Head?

default
Posted on Tue, 10 Feb 2015
Question: My husband is feeling lightheaded. His BP is 203/98. He feels light-headed and his head feels a little sweaty. He is on bP meds once a day. He is overweight. He says he has no pain anywhere. He just ate some grapefruit with salt. He wants to go to bed once the light headed feeling passes. Should we go to emergency room...he says no....or let him lie down when the dizzy feeling passes?

Brief Answer:
Need to go to ER.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Prakash HM and I will be answering your query.

Based on your query, my opinion is as follows:

1. Systolic blood pressure is too high and this requires ER support immediately.
2. You check the blood pressure again now, if it is above 180 systolic, then do go to ER.
3. Watch out for headache, vision blurring, any weakness anywhere.
Risk of stroke will be high.

Any further queries, here to help again.

Brief Answer:
its better now.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking again.

166/81 is good for now.
Adequate rest and relaxation should help.

If it goes above 180, go to ER. Otherwise wait until it goes below 140.
If it is consistently above 140, in next 3-4 days, medication may need to be added or dosage increased.
Now, its OK.

Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help agaw.
