What Causes Liquid Discharge From Ears?

My two year old daughter had eartubes placed in April and has not had any ear issues since. This weekend, we noticed clear drainage coming out of one of her ears. She had not had a fever and doesn't seem to be in any pain, although she had stuck her finger in her ear to show us the "wetness". Is this typical it am infection with eartubes? Should we visit her doctor even if we are using the ear drops?
middle ear effusion.
Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for your query.
In children middle ear infection and effusion are very common. This is usually seen during attacks of cold or upper respiratory tract infection.
Good, she already had ventilation tubes in her ear. The clear draining fluid is because of middle ear effusion. If the liquid is clear, does not have fever, ear pain, yellowish discharge from ears, then do not worry .
If I were your treating doctor, I would have prescribed antihistamines + decongestant medicines and decongestant nasal drops to reduce the ear discharge. Antibiotics ear drops for local application. I am not sure if your child is already on these medications. You may want to discuss it with her doctor.
If symptoms persists for more than 5 days and she has ear pain then please consult with your doctor and get evaluated.
Hope my answers have helped you. Thanks.
