Posted on Mon, 29 Jun 2015
Question: I have been on Venlafaxine XR for years. For the past 4 a dose of 225 mg. I sing and for the past 6-10 months I will be singing and my jaw completely locks up and i cannot get a sound out. I am also having transient pain in my teeth-moves around in my mouth. Could either of these symptoms be related to the medication?

Brief Answer:
The symptoms may not be due to medication Venlafaxine XR.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ma am,
Good Morning!
I appreciate your concern for not being able to sing.

Basically used in the treatment of depression and painful neuralgias, Venlafaxine is known to cause the following side effects on chronic use like

Insomnia (lack of sleep), anxiety, dizziness, strange dreams, changes in appetite and weight or dry mouth.

It could be due to dysfunction of the tempromandibular joint which might have caused your present symptoms.

Hope I could answer your query, should you need more clarification please send your query.

Best regards.
