Question : My gransdson 5 yrs old has had the flu for 3 days. The vomiting stopped yesterday but the runny stools arent stopping. We are giving Pepto childrend tabs Tid. Gatoraid and food as tolerated. How do we stop the diarrea?

I read your question and i understand your concern. Stomach flu is the likely cause of diarrhea and should be managed supportively. BRAT diet ( banana, rice , applesauce and toast) pomegranate juices and green tea helps. Avoid pepto even in children, keep child hydrated well and electrolyte solutions should be given. Diarrhea will resolve in a few days. No worries, main aim should be hydration, if dehydration kicks in or diarrhea does not stop or fever kicks in or some other complication, visit a paediatrician then.
