What Causes Loss Of Appetite And General Weakness When Diagnosed With Lung Cancer?

default
Posted on Tue, 3 Jan 2017
Question: I have been diagnosed with limited stage small cell lung cancer. It has been there for 18 months. At one point it was shrinking, but now is back to increasing in size. Surgery has been recommended. I have noticed a decrease in appetite the past 6 months, increase in productive cough, and fatigue and weakness, perhaps from other health problems, but now I suspect it includes from the cancer. What are my chances for a full recovery?

Brief Answer:
Hello dear.If it is localised then surgery will be the best approach

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear. I have gone through the details. So if you donot have undergone any treatment, and it is amenable to surgery, then surgery will provide the best results of survival. Of course it will be followed by chemotherapy. However, if surgery is not feasible, then combined chemo and radiation will give best results. Survival will vary from person to person. Approximately 20 percent of patients experience 5 year survival after surgery and chemo both.
Thanks and regards

I have an appoointment for a pulmonary function test on Tuesday, one with the thoracic surgeon on Wednesday, (I have already met him. He outlined the surgery he plans to do and ordered the biopsy), and two with the chemotherapy oncologist and radiation oncologist on Thursday. I will know more by next week (not to mention an important holiday a week from now. Since it may be my last Christmas, we plan to make it memorable.) You have essentially given me a second opinion before the first opinion. Thank you so much. If I have more questions can I test you personally in 10 days or so?
