Question: Hi. Yes. My daughter had her teeth cleaned yesterday and the Dental Hyginest rubbed numbing cream in her mouth before she proceeded. My daughter has not been able to taste anything since. She called the dental office and was told they have not heard of such a reaction. Do you know what may have occured and if she will be able to regain her taste sensation.

Brief Answer:
loss of papilla, anemia, multivitamin

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query. I have gone through your query.
As far as the loss of taste sensation following application of anesthetic agent can be because of the loss of papilla over the tongue by rubbing or scraping the tongue when it was numb(accidental application of topical anesthesia over the tongue).
The other possible cause can be anemia, in anemia there will loss of papilla. That reaults in loss of taste.
Nothing to worry it will return in 5-7days.
If i am your treating doctor, i would have prescribed nerve regenerating drugs like multivitamin capsules for 15days.consume lot of green leafy vegetables.
I hope my answer will help you. Take care. If any queries are there, then reply me back.
