                                            Question : Hi,
Owing to my sudden weight loss, I have gone for various blood tests. Lever function test was one of them. The results indicate high total bilirubin (2.02), high indirect bilirubin (1.82) and low ALT (16.00). All other values are within range. Would like to know what would this indicate, and what could be the causes for same.

                                    Brief Answer:
It is important to rule out XXXXXXX syndrome.
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Mostly low ALT level indicate normal healthy liver. However, Urinary tract infections or malnutrition may also cause low ALT level in blood.
Since only total bilirubin and indirect bilirubin are high, it is important to rule out XXXXXXX syndrome. Patients with XXXXXXX syndrome usually have only mild hyperbilirubinemia especially elevated indirect bilirubin level and there is no clinical significance. It is found in 5-10% of the population.
This condition usually doesn't require any treatment.
