Question : My Father aged 77 years is Diabetic since for the past 20 years. He also had CABG done 10 years back. Now he is on Zoryl M2 and Galvus Met(50/500).He takes Zoryl M2 once in the morning before breakfast and then Galvus Met after breakfast. And in the night,he takes Zoryl M2 after dinner. With this, what I am observing is that his blood sugar goes low during evening (around 7 to 8 PM) ,and couple of reading showed the blood sugar as low as 30 to 40 .I have my own doubt with the medicines.I feel since both has metamorfin ,it is too much for my father.Any suggestion?

                                    Brief Answer:
Replace afternoon tablet(Galvus met 50/500) with plain metformin 500.
Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir, gone through your query and understood your concerns.
Sir if the problem is only with the sugar levels in the evening, advice him to take only Metformin 500 in place of Galvus met 50/500. As you asked metformin is alright, its not too much.
If the Fasting and Post Prandial sugar levels are also low(which is not mentioned in the query), then you need to stop afternoon medicine first. But if they are in the normal range, then only change needed is as mentioned above and advice to take some sugarless snacks in the evening at around 4-5 o clock.
Hope this helps you,
Thank you

                                    Brief Answer:
Stop Galvus met50/500 for two weeks and check sugar levels
Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir, in such case, stop Galvus Met50/500 and continue only with Zoryl M2 morning and evening for two weeks. Check sugar levels. If fasting and post prandial(2 hours after food) are in normal range, then continue the same.
If there is any rise above normal in sugar levels, then add on metformin, 500 in the afternoon after lunch.
Thank you sir.
