Question : yes thank you. What is the usual cause of low white blood cells and low hemoglobin which is 9.1, hemocritic (sp?) which is 28.3 and low WBC which is 4?
Hello Doctor, I thought I might mention that I've had a series of bladder infections. Dr. in emergency a couple of months ago said...the infection is so high it number can't be read. He put my on a drug for about 6 days and sent me to a urologist who then put me on Cipro for 10 days. Then I got a yeast infection and that caused another bladder infection, and I took Cipro again for about 5 days.
Right before all this happened, I took my 10 year old grandson swimming in a little cove in the Keys with the Dolphins. The water looked kind of slimy and dirty...but I never thought of getting an infection ...I simply had fun. Could the long term Cipro have caused the low WBC count etc.? Or could I have picked up a parasite in the dolphin cove? (which then caused the low white count etc? Thank you in advance XXXXXXX

                                    Brief Answer:
maybe infection or drug induced
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.
The hemoglobin and hematocrit are low, both imply the same thing actually. It may be unrelated to this infection and can be because of iron deficiency as well.
On the other hand, both the infection and the antibiotic can cause depression of blood cell production and result in low hemoglobin and white cells. It should improve with time.
Don't think it is due to parasite.
Hope this helps.
Regards
