What Causes Low Appetite When With History Of Pneumonia?

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Jun 2016
Question: I have always been very healthy Inspite of a horrible accident. I broke my back in five places, shattered both shoulders, both knees, both wrists and various other bumps and owes. After 31 major surgeries and 2 years of rehab I finally got my human back. Lately after a 4 month battle with pneumonia I can no longer eat. After just a few bites I feel very full, if I take one more bite, I just start launching. What the heck is going on?

Brief Answer:
Intestinal flora alteration due to antibiotics used for pneumonia

Detailed Answer:
Hi my dear,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concern.

I am sorry for the horrible accident you went through. I am also happy that you're getting back to normality.

With regards to being full after eating, and taking into account your recent history of pneumonia, I can say as following:

You have been prescribed antibiotics to treat pneumonia. Antibiotics use is associated with alteration in GI flora and Candida overgrowth, which are giving the feeling of fullness.

Following are advised to be taken to ease your symptoms:
- probiotics to stabilize intestinal flora
- antacids after eating
- PPI in the morning to optimize stomach pH
- antifungal like Nystatin
- simethicone for bloating

If still no improvement, digestive enzymes to start after consultation with GI specialist.

Wish fast recovery!
