What Causes Low Blood Pressure After Taking A Single Dosage Of Irbesartan?

default
Posted on Fri, 17 Mar 2017
Question: I recently got prescribed blood pressure medicine. I took the first pill yesterday morning. About an hour after taking the pill i started to feel very light headed and dizzy. I went to see my doctor that same morning. Everything seemed ok. My blood pressure had dropped to 146/86 from what it has been which has been around 174/98. Anyway my doctor said skip taking it this morning and take it in the evening for now in case i got dizzy again while i was at home. My I haven't taken the pill again because my blood pressure has been at around 120/78 to 124/86 for the whole day. Is it normal for it to stay that low with taking only one pill and last for more than a day. If i take my pill now could that drop my blood pressure too low?

Brief Answer:
Don't take medicine now doses need to be adjusted.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic.
A single dose of Irbesartan works for more then 24 hours,Complete clearance of the drug from blood may take even more time approx 36 to 48 hours.
As you blood pressure is 120/78mm of hg now,I would suggest you not to take medicine for 2-3 days.Record your blood pressure three times a day and keep a log of it.Measure it after breakfast, lunch and dinner.Visit your cardiologist after 3 days,Doses of the medicine will be adjusted according to the variation of blood pressure.
Though not asked,Ask him to shift you on Amlodipine,It is a calcium channel blocker and a very safe medicine with minimum side effects and most of the patients responds very well to amlodipine.

As per your question yes don't take medicine now as it may result in hypotension.
Thanks.
