Question : My husband is a 69 year old practicing attorney. His mother died in 2009 of vascular dementia. I see a gradual change in his behavior. He acting childish and is no longer interested in sex. I had his usual doctor do a " XXXXXXX exam". Do you think I force him into seeing a Neurologist? Or could these signs be symptoms of something else?

In my opinion, you are right, behavior changes at that age could point into brain disfunction most probably related to dementia.

Heritage is one of the risk factors about dementias.

There is need for a neurological evaluation and mental state examination as well as a complete check up about blood pressure, diabetes and blood lipids levels.

Do you have suggestions for persuading him to go to a Neurologist? Perhaps his doctor could recommend he consult one? He has had a full checkup recently. He takes Benazepril and Simvastatin for high blood pressure and high cholesterol. He has recently been checked for Low T. All tests come back fine.

He's a Jewish Lawyer.........he thinks he know everything! (you have to laugh)

He also smokes a pack of cigarettes a day.
