Question: Hello doctor. I got internal hemorrhoidal surgery 17 days ago after that I feel slight pain in my lower abdomen and still some times see bright red blood on the toilet paper after I clean. I had not had the abdominal pain before s in surgery and in first and second day after the procedure day the abdominal pain was very intense then after a week it was gone then I had sex with my girlfriend twice and now I have that slight abdominal pain and red blood on tissue paper. Should I be worried or it is because of hemorrhoids?

Brief Answer:
Bleeding likely due to frictional injury owing to harder stools...explained

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to HCM,
The internal hemorrhoidectomy that you underwent just 2 weeks back is still under the healing stage and generally takes 3-4 weeks completely for the surgical lesions to heal completely. The presence of light blood is possible due to the healing lesions but this blood is not fresh blood but ideally dark and clotted in appearance. Such episodes may be seen to increase when pelvic blood supply increases as in case of intercourse or while lifting weights or even when stools are still semi solid to hard. You have to concentrate on your diet and hydration to keep the consistency of the stools soft so that they may not cause any further frictional injury to the recent surgically operated lesion during evacuation.
Sex per se cannot cause repeat bleeding or recurrence, so rest assured. The pain is accompanied possibly due to freshening of lesion during passage of stools. Keep yourself well hydrated and add roughage to your food, this should prevent such episodes in future and promote early healing as well.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
As the operation has just been a month there are chances that this blood may be a part of the healing process but constipation can be possible cause for rectal obstruction here. Increase your water intake and salad intake which shall allow bulk and co sistency to stools and that shall prevent reoccurrence.

Detailed Answer:
The best way to prevent constipation is to eat fibrous diet and increase your water intake which shall not only improve constipation but also shall improve circulation and improve your appetite . If the loss of appetite has been chronic then get a liver function test done to see the liver enzymes and review back with reports.
