Question : My son is 10 years old. He is very good health and has no known allergies to medication. No major health issues except the typical childhood colds and one ear infection as an infant. He is not currently on any medications and takes a daily multivitamin. He just reported to me that he has been experiencing a sharp pain in his mid-lower abdomen right above his pubic area followed by urine leakage. He says it is a small amount of urine (maybe a few drips) and then everything returns to normal. He reported that this first happened when he was 7 years old and couldn't exactly state the frequency. He states that it has only happened once in the last year. Please advise!

Brief Answer:
Bladder stone and/or infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for the query for your 10 year old son.
To recapitulate: Male/10 yrs - good health - daily multivitamins - had childhood cold and one ear inf - now sharp pain supra-pubic area - with urine leakage - happened once when he was 7 years old and one last year ....

Th commonest causes are:
Urinary bladder stone.
Urinary tract infection.

I would advise him the following:

Send urine for routine, microscopy, culture and sensitivity before the antibiotic is started to get proper diagnosis.
Tests of blood and stool.
Plain X-ray of the whole abdomen particularly to see for stones in the urinary tract.

Ultrasonography.
Opinion of an Urologist who can correlate well the symptoms, the clinical evaluation and ask fr further investigations and proper treatment as per the diagnosis made.

I hope this answer helps you, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
