HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Pain related to diarrhea or constipation is often on the left side or central.
The left side because the intestines on this side lead to the rectum then anus.

Diarrhea is most often due to infection either viral or bacterial. Because it is an infection , a fever can occur.
Most can be managed at home but in some severe cases, an assessment by a doctor may be needed.

If you have a history of crohns or ulcerative colitis, if there is blood in the stool ,if the pain is very severe or the diarrhea persistent (more than 7 days),if you have a history of diverticular disease, or if you are very concerned ,then you consider should seeing your doctor for assistance.

If none of these is a problem, treatment involves: (a) holding off all solid food till there is a 4 hour window with no symptoms

When this occurs start with small portions of dry foods initially

(b)fluids- it is very important to replace fluids. Fluid loss can lead to weakness, dizziness etc
It would be best to use an oral rehydration fluid or a sport drink so that you can get back both fluids and also electrolytes as well

(c)probiotics- these help to restore the normal bacteria to the colon and would help shorten the course of the diarrhea

(d) pain killers such as tylenol. Avoid meds such as naproxen, ibuprofen, cataflam as these could irritate the stomach

(e)medications such as peptobismol or lomotil may also help with the diarrhea

(f)pepcid or zantac may help with the queasy sensation

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
