What Causes Lower Back Pain, Upset Stomach, Gas Pain, Nausea And Vomiting?

Question: My wife is 65 years old and suddenly got pain on both sides of her lower back near her kidneys, she had an upset stomach and severe gas pains. It suddenly cleared up and she felt fine. She had no fever. We went to lunch where she had a salad. On our way home it all returned and she began throwing up. The pain returned around her kidney area and across her abdominal. 5 years ago she had a section of her intestines removed and a year later she had the bag removed and the did the reversal surgery. She has had an active bowel movement daily ever since with no signs of diverticulitis returning. She does not have a fever. We live in a remote area of the Rockies with the nearest hospital about an hour plus away.

Brief Answer:
possible pancreatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.

If there is still pain, associated with nausea and vomit and it radiates to back then this may indicate pancreatitis and she should see a doctor at the earliest. Pancreatitis can be serious diseases.

If pain has subsided and it is associated with food intake then this is more likely to be some benign issue such as pancreatitis or gallbladder attack and in this case, it can be treated at home with spasmodic and antacid medications.

Throwing up may also be a sign of another disease called adhesive ileus especially since she already had abdominal operations. SO abdominal X-rays and amylase count may be enough to rule out two most serious issues, pancreatitis, and intestinal obstruction.

Wish her a good health. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards
