What Causes Lower Back Pain While On Bladder Control Product?

default
Posted on Wed, 1 Jun 2016
Question: I am 52, have had 2 back surgeries, one discectomy, and spinal fusion and have a lot of pain. 2 weeks ago I fell. Got bruised on my back but felt ok. 4 days ago I used a bladder control product for stress incontinence, I felt a little back discomfort after applying it, but did not associate it with the product. Then 1/2 hour later I bent into my car and felt a small pinch in my back. It has become real bad low back pain. I went to pain mgmt. Dr. He gave me injections in my back. That helped a little for about half hour. He also gave me Vicoden, low dose. The problem is, I throw up when I take pain meds lately. It never bothered me before. I have taken Nucynta and Oxicotin in the past. Lately Nucynta has been making me throw up. Two questions, Can the Poise Bladder product cause back pain, and is my body rejecting pain meds because something else is wrong, like liver problems?

Brief Answer:
Poise bladder side effect and rejection cause

Detailed Answer:
Hello, thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. Answering your first question

: Poise bladder product can cause infection (Pelvic inflammatory disease or PID), pain in vagina or discomfort. Backpain can occur due to PID. However increased risk is not found with Poise. You can suspect PID if lower back pain, vaginal discharge, foul smelling discharge, pain during intercourse/menstruation.

Answering your 2nd question

: Pain medication like oxycodone (Oxycontin), acetaminophen-hydrocodone (Vicoden), tapentadol (Nucynta) can cause nausea and vomiting very commonly. All these medications can cause stomach pain and rarely liver damage. So drug itself may be the cause of nausea/vomiting or rejection.
Regarding liver damage, you can suspect it if your appetite decrease significantly, develop jaundice, weight loss, pain in right upper abdomen. It can be confirmed by consulting doctor. He will advise ultrasound abdomen and liver function test to diagnose it.

My another concern is get your lumbar region X ray or CT to know about status of spinal fusion implant. Such type of sever pain should not be taken lightly. If you are having severe backache which is current like, sharp and radiating in lower limbs, consult doctor about spine.

Hope it will help you. Thanks. Take care.
