What Causes Lower Back Pain While Walking?

default
Posted on Wed, 20 Apr 2016
Question: When I go for a walk within 15 minutes my lower back starts to hurt. I then tend to walk faster and have the problem of slowing down. If I persist I will keep speeding up even when I try to slow down. I keep leaning forward. I have always been very athletic, played lots of sports, golf several times a week (pretty good, too). Anyhow, I have fallen down couple times because I cannot stop. I stretch each day, pump some iron, try to eat right. But this walking disorder has me stumped. Any ideas?

Brief Answer:
Lumbar canal stenosis due to spine arthritis

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

You could be having a condition called Lumbar canal stenosis where arthritis of the spine can narrow the space in which the nerves travel in the back to the legs, causing pain and discomfort and forcing you to bend forward especially on walking uphill.

You may apply hot packs to the painful regions. Take Tablet Diclofenac and Thicolchicoside combination twice a day for 5 days after meals and Tablet Ranitidine 150mg twice a day for 5 days before meals. This will help relax the muscles and reduce back pain. Avoid lifting weights and strenuous activity. Do back strengthening exercises and straight leg raising exercises.

I advise you to get an Xray of lumbosacral spine and am MRI as well especially if you have radiating pain from the lower back to the lower limbs with tingling or numbness.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.
