Question : I was moving the yard yesterday, when I got a burning pain in my lower left back (kidney area?), felt very nauseous and had the sweats. pain lessened after about 45 minutes as did the sweats, however, I still am feeling the pain in my side (not as bad, it feels like I took a knee to the side. and still feeling a bit nauseous, although able to eat.

I should add that I have had a headache on and off for three days.

Brief Answer:
Possible muscular or pinched nerve pain.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using Healthcaremagic to post your health query.
I read carefully your question and I understand your concern.

You might have pulled a muscle of a nerve while you were moving around in the yard.
It may be more muscular if that pain is not radiated.
It is less likely that it is a kidney pain, because in that case the pain would be very severe, and would not be better despite every position of the body. Also, the location of a kidney pain is in the upper back.

I would recommend that you use a mild painkiller.
Try first Acetaminophen 700-1000mg every 4-6 hours. If not completely better you can add Ibuprofen 400mg every 6 hours.
Apply cold or hot compressed to the place of pain if it is well localized.
Use a local analgesic cream and massage gently.
Keep moving. Bed rest is not recommended because would make the pain worse.
The nausea and headache is most probably because of the intensity of the pain.

If worse or not better, I would recommend seeing a local physician who can examine you, can perform a urine analyse and rule out kidney stones, or other necessary labs if needed.

Hope this is helpful.
Let me know if you need more clarifications.

Regards,
Dr. Papaqako
