                                            Question : Dear Dr,
Could you please give me your opinion on the following:
Small lump (1cm) slightly bellow the tailbone. Its been there for a few days. The lump itches and burns. It hurts when sitting or when wearing jeans. Putting on some aluminium acetotartrate seems to make the lump dry.
Please see attached pictures

                                    Brief Answer:
It looks like Folliculitis.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
I saw the pics.
It looks like Folliculitis. It is due to the infection of hair follicle of that area.
Redness is due to the associated inflammation.
I prescribe Antibiotic like Clindamycin capsule along with anti-inflammatory tablet to my patients with similar complaints.
Nothing to worry.
It will come down.
If at all pus is formed, it has to be drained by a small incision.
Please apply small dressing over it so that it doesn't hurt you after wearing clothes.
Please consult your doctor and get proceed.
Hope I answered your query.
If you have any questions, I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.
Regards

Is there any reason to worry about it developing into a cyst?
Is it common that the tailbone hurts a lot from folliculitis?
