Question: I ve had this lump for about a week and I didn't think anything of it so ii would ice it too see if the swelling would go down. One day I was showering and accidentally scrub too hard and blood starting coming out. I made an appointment with my doctor tommorow but I would like to know what it is and where I would have gotten it from.

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Need details...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

You have provided a very vague information. Can you specify
1. the location of this lump? - where on the body did you have this lump?
2. the size - approximately how big is it? Did it change after bleeding?
3. How did it start - was it abruptly or did it develop gradually over a few days?
4. Does it hurt?
5. Does it move around when pushed?
6. Is it soft (as a sponge) / firm (like a taut muscle) or hard (as a bone) to touch?
7. Importantly has the bleeding stopped?
8. Is there skin changes on and around the lump?
9. Will you be able to send a picture? You can click a photo and upload it on the site's uploader provided on this page

Awaiting your response...

The location on the bump is between the lower backa nd abd above the butt crack. And its about a nickel size and it did get a little smaller after bleeding. It develop gradually over a few days then i put ice on it for the swelling to go down. It only hurts if i sit for a long period in time . And it does not move around when pushed. Its on the firm side. Yes the bleeding has stop and no skin changes but it looks like it has dried up blood on it .

Brief Answer:
Pilonidal cyst...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for providing additional details.

Based on the given description it seems to be a Pilonidal cyst that drained out now. A blocked gland leading to a cyst and infected follicle will be my other differentia diagnosis.

All these are benign and harmless; utmost you may need a small XXXXXXX to drain all the contents aseptically. If the doctor feels most secretions are discharged he might send you off with a prescription of topical antiseptic cream / oral antibiotic.

Rarely will this condition recur inviting other treatment options. So don't be worried.

In short and simple terms, I am not concerned about this cyst. It will heal well unless you have history of diabetes.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need clarifications. And please close this discussion once you are convinced with it.

Good luck!!
