What Causes Lump In Groin, White Spots On Arm And Eye Infection?

default
Posted on Thu, 13 Aug 2015
Question: First I found a lump/ pimple like thing on my groin, it was a couple of days after I shaved and lasted about 3 days then just disappeared. It's harder than a usual pimple but I seem to remember it had yellowish discharge just like what you get on a pimple. Two weeks after that I found another similar one on the other side of my groin. It was gone after a couple of days. (I may or may not have shaved during that I don't remember)

After that I was out of town for an entire two month, no similar things were found and I didn't get to shave at all during the whole two months. During the two months I started to notice other change in body that could very well be me letting my imagination go and maybe not related to this. For example, I had some white spots on my arm that could be because of the prolonged sunshine exposure during my tennis training. (They are now significantly better)Loose stools that might be related to the change in diets etc. I also had an eye infection that was possibly caused by the poor water quality in China and the fact that I shower with my contact lenses on.

So I got back to the States a couple of days ago, and the first thing I did was shaving. Then I had two similar cyst like things on the pubic area, one right on the shaft of my penis.

Are these just regular ingrown hair and completely unrelated symptoms or am I looking at something much more serious like I imagined? I am really nervous at this point I am losing sleep and can't focus on pretty much anything.

Brief Answer:
Most likely folliculitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query. Your problem can be most likely folliculitis (hair bed) infection. Hot fomentation and applying betadine ointment locally will be helpful.

Avoided shaving in both directions. Wash the area with warm water before and after shaving. If still problem is there then you can consider using trimmer which doesn't give such irritation. Taking vitamin c regularly also will be helpful to get rid off such infections.

There is nothing to worry for these things as it is usual. You are just linking other problems you had due to some other reasons. Be relaxed.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.

It's very comforting to hear that, but just to be more certain, is it normal that these infections popped after and worsen 5 days after the initial shaving and right as of now I can feel a ball shaped tissue under the infected skin. As you might have guessed, I am linking all the little problems I've had and making crazy assumptions, so it's really important to me that you can help me rule out worse problems at least for a while.

Brief Answer:
Folliculitis can give such swelling.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up query.

Folliculitis can gives such ball like swelling. You can get this within some days of shaving also. This is due to inflammation and infection of hair bed. Draining of puss will relieve this also. If it is more troublesome then antibiotic therapy will be needed.

Hot fomentation will help to decrease such swelling also. Taking vitamin c regularly will be helpful to prevent such infections to some extent.

Let me know if any thing not clear. I am happy to help you.
Thanks.

I tried hot fomentation yesterday and it seems to be working and the tissue decreased in size tremendously. However, I am still a bit concerned that it seems to be the fourth time I've had such infection. Alone with one infected cut, one case of eye infection and multiple cases of diarrhea (sometimes 2-3 times a day and last 1-2 days sometimes 1 time a day but half liquid stool). Should I be concerned about these infections?

I understand your worries. You are suspecting these can be symptoms of suppressed immunity like HIV. You can go for HIV duo test to rule out this. If you had any unprotected risky sex before it is better to go for this test. If that is fine then no need to worry.

Wow that did not even occur to me. It was never a concern and I was actually worried about some kind of parasite or something like that. I am the paranoid kind of person so this kind of things really ticks me off. Is there any parasite could have these symptoms?

Thank you for your follow up query.

Parasite doesn't cause all of these symptoms.Parasitic infections like Giardiasis or amoeba infection can cause diarrhoea. But others are not related.

Taking vitamin supplements will be helpful in decreasing the incidence of getting boils. Also take enough plain water. Get stress relaxation by doing breathing exercise. You can sit relaxed and take deep breaths.

Get a routine examination of blood urine and stools to rule out any signs of infection or inflammatory process running in the body.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
