What Causes Lump In Right Axilla During Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Mon, 14 Sep 2015
Question: Hi. I am 16 weeks pregnant with my second child. Yesterday I noticed a hard, pea sized visible lump in my right axilla. Any ideas what that could be? I am seeing someone this week about it, but it has me nervous. Thanks

Brief Answer:
Hair follicle infection or enlarged lymph nnode.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to Healthcare magic.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.

The most common causes for this pea sized lump are hair follicle infection or enlarged lymph node .

If it is red and painful it is more likely to be hair follicle infection.
If it is just painful it could be a lymph node. It has enlarged because your body is fighting an infection. Did you have sore throat or any infection in the recent past?
Usually they resolve in week to 10 days time.

Occasionally it could just be a skin tag. They occur due to rubbing of skin against clothing and are harmless.
I hope this helps.
If you have further concerns, do write to me. I will be happy to answer.
Best wishes,
Dr Rama

The lump isn't painful at all. Do you think it could have anything to do with pregnancy? It sounds like an enlarged lymph node, but could that be if it isn't painful. It also isn't reddened. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
It seems like enlarged lymph node.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.

From your notes it seems like enlarged lymph node. May be it is enlarged due to mild infection and that is why it is not painful.

It is definitely not related to pregnancy. Don't worry.
Best wishes,
Dr Rama
